PISA 2025: What can 15-year-old Students do? What can our Education System do?
The OECD has released the results of the 2025 PISA study—and the message is sobering: In science, reading, and math, Germany now ranks only in the middle of the pack among OECD countries. For the first time, the study also examined “learning in the digital world,” an area that will become increasingly relevant in the future.
Upon closer inspection, the scores mark the lowest level since the first survey in 2000. It is particularly alarming that too many young people are failing to achieve the required basic competencies and that educational success depends more than ever on social background. The gap between disadvantaged and privileged students is wide. However, the decline in skills is not unique to Germany but rather a broad OECD trend.
