Beyond his work as head of Dortmund University Library IT, Michael Schaarwächter has had a lasting impact on the German-speaking library community, not least through the founding in 1994 of the Inetbib mailing list, which soon became a central communication platform for the library community.

The award ceremony will take place in the Rudolf-Chaudoire Pavilion at TU Dortmund University on the South Campus. Interested parties are cordially invited!

  • When: Monday, November 16, 2026, 3:00 p.m., Rudolf-Chaudoire Pavilion
  • Opening Remarks: Dr. Joachim Kreische, Dortmund University Library Director
  • Laudatory Address: Prof. Dr. Claudia Frick, Professor at the Institute for Information Science at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences

The Preusker Medal has been awarded annually since 1996 by BID e. V. (Bibliothek & Information Deutschland e. V.), the umbrella organization for library associations in Germany. In addition to individuals, special initiatives are also honored; for example, last year the Ukrainian Library Association received the award. The jury consists of representatives from politics, journalism, and the library associations.
