"Soon we will reach Dortmund University" - of partnerships, railroad genes and an anniversary event
- Exhibitions
A commemorative lecture and an exhibition opening were the highlights of the celebrations for the golden jubilee of the cooperation between Dortmund University Library and DGEG on October 22, 2022.
The DGEG's special collection on railroad history has been housed at Dortmund University Library for 50 years and has grown enormously since then. For several years now, it has been freely accessible to all those interested in railroads, having previously only been available to DGEG members.
In his introduction to the audience, Rector Prof. Dr. Manfred Bayer asked what kind of person one would have to be to become a "railroad freak"? Spontaneously, Günter Krause, former president of the DGEG, answered: "It's a genetic defect". Dr. Valentin Wehefritz, now almost 90 years old, was head librarian 50 years ago and told as a contemporary witness about the beginnings of the cooperation. Rainer Kolbe, DGEG board member from Hamburg, gave a good-humored lecture on the history and present of the DGEG and his personal relationship to the association.
After the lecture, the exhibition Locomotives and People - Railways Move the TU Dortmund University was opened in the foyer of the UB with a champagne reception. It will be on display until January 9, 2023.
