RDMO Hackathon at TU Dortmund University

With the data management plans of Research Data Management Organizer (RDMO), all UA Ruhr researchers can consider the necessary steps, such as joint work on data sets, archiving or subsequent use of data, even before the start of a project. RDMO makes it possible to update data management plans over the entire duration of the project. The open source software was developed as part of a DFG project and has already been implemented by numerous institutions in Germany.
In order to further advance the development of RDMO as software as well as the content and adapt it to current conditions, an RDMO hackathon takes place annually; on August 11 and 12, 2025 for the third time.
Organized by the UA Ruhr, 19 participants from all over Germany met at Dortmund University Library to work together on use cases and improvements to various tools. They had submitted topics in advance that they wanted to work on over the course of the two days. After a brief welcome by Kathrin Höhner and Norbert Gövert (both from the UB management), participants were able to present their ideas and inspire others with their projects. Depending on their interests and the needs of their own institution, the participants then split up into different groups.
In intensive group work, interrupted by joint lunch breaks, the participants developed solutions for their ideas and problems. The open coffee kitchen in particular enabled a direct exchange between those working on content and programmers. This made it possible to directly check the technical feasibility of the content requirements for further development and start implementation straight away. Participants also discussed fundamental changes to the tool in larger groups.
At the end of the hackathon, the groups presented their results and made agreements for further work.
