Open-access Publication: “Socio-emotional and cognitive development in learning”
In 2025, professors and research associates at the Institute for School Development Research at TU Dortmund University published the open-access volume *Socio-emotional and cognitive development in learning*, which was produced as part of the Dortmund Symposium on Empirical Educational Research. The symposium is known for fostering intensive interdisciplinary exchange. The publication was funded through the FID Education and Training crowdfunding package, and the University Library also contributed to the funding.
The articles in this freely available online publication are particularly important for scholarly discourse because they place traditional educational goals (grades, school administration) in the context of socio-emotional development. The authors discuss the central question of whether these two goals are in conflict or can reinforce one another. The goal is to develop more inclusive, equitable, and effective educational systems. Thanks to Open Access, “Socio-emotional and cognitive development in learning” is also available to practitioners outside the academic world, thereby making a valuable contribution to the transfer of scientific knowledge to society.
