Survey Results: What do you need to learn in the Library?

We were particularly happy about the positive feedback we received about our learning opportunities and the different types of learning spaces we offer.

31 % of the participants in our Summer 2022 survey even indicated that they use the "Bib" as a learning space on a daily basis. A total of 528 people participated and gave many suggestions. We will go into more detail here.

Printer

A central printer is a frequently mentioned wish. Currently we are investigating if we can provide a printer – until then, you will find the existing alternatives here once again: Scanning (Copying and printouts)

Wifi & Power

An improved wifi and power outlets were also frequently requested. Area-wide wifi and sufficient power sockets will be realized in the new building of the Central Library.

Food & Drink

We would like to leave the regulations on eating and drinking (food in the foyer, drinks in resealable containers only) in place so that we can offer a place where you can work and be comfortable at the same time. There are different limits here. For some, the smell of food is already disturbing, while others are only bothered by food on the table. To ensure that you find a clean learning and working environment in the future, we ask you to use our dining area next to the beverage machines and other places in the foyer.

Water Dispensers

You also wanted a water dispenser in the library. The TU Dortmund provides public water dispensers at two locations near the library: in the Mensa building (until 4 p.m.) and in the Emil-Figge-Str. 50 building (until 8 p.m.). There are no plans for another water dispenser for the Central Library. However, there will be water dispensers in the new building and also already in the transition phase.

Learning Space & Climate

You asked about "chill areas." In many places you will find armchairs or sofa corners on the ground floor, some also on the upper floors. For static reasons, it is not possible to dismantle more shelves there and thus create new space. However, we will continue to expand these areas in the new building. The climate will also improve compared to the current building.

Did you know that in addition to the approximately 1000 workstations in the Central Library, we also have learning spaces in three Departmental Libraries? The overview map TU Dortmund Campus Study Areas shows you many more learning opportunities on campus in addition to the library, including utilization.
