They form the basis for scientific findings and are the starting point for a wide range of new research approaches: Research data. Optimized research data management (FDM) increases the efficiency and transparency of research. In a joint curriculum of the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr), the skills for targeted and sustainable RDM are taught.

The comprehensive training program of the UA Ruhr, consisting of Ruhr-Universität Bochum, the University of Duisburg-Essen and TU Dortmund University, is aimed at around 14,000 researchers at all career levels and departments to support them in dealing with research data.

Basic and advanced module

The curriculum includes both all-day basic training courses with a subject-specific focus and in-depth courses that are offered online to enable participation across all locations. Topics of the in-depth module include hands-on workshops on the FDM tools available at the UA Ruhr, introductions to programming languages such as R and Python for data analysis as well as insights into legal issues and the implementation of good scientific practice.

The curriculum offers researchers the opportunity to delve deeper into specific subject areas, to try out practical FDM tools directly and to promote exchange among themselves. A certificate of attendance is issued for each completed event. Those who take part in a basic training course and two in-depth modules will receive the FDM badge as proof of the skills they have acquired.
